Let’s Talk About Disqus

I’ve been wondering whether or not I should put a comment section on my personal blog site. There are several plug-ins that could be used for comments - Facebook and Disqus are two of the most obvious.

My concern isn’t that I’m worried about coding it wrong or that I’ll put up a comment section that no one will comment on. My bugaboo is how to make a widget like Disqus look as though it integrates seamlessly onto the page. Basically, how do I implement the feature so that it looks like it’s meant to be there?

Here’re two examples, one pro and one counter: On this page – “Retailer of the Year: Barry Beck, Founder and COO, Bluemercury” - https://www.mytotalretail.com/longform/retailer-of-the-year-barry-beck-bluemercury/, the Disqus block near the bottom of the longform scroll is nicely spaced…but on this page at https://www.bigboytravel.com/europe/austria/vienna/freewalkingtour (another longform webpage), the fit isn’t quite so snug and admittedly doesn’t look particularly good - like it was jammed in. That’s what I want to avoid.

I’ve been looking at coding tips from SquareSpace (https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206544897-Adding-Disqus-comments-to-your-site) and WebNots (https://www.webnots.com/how-to-add-disqus-to-your-website) but those focus mainly on backend stuff, like connecting Disqus to Twitter. What advice does anyone have for putting a comment section on a webpage - while the page still looks good?
